Interview of dj embex with interview nightlife

Interview with DJ EMBEX EDM Nightlife asked 11 interesting questions from Maximillion aka. DJ EMBEX. Originally from New Jersey, this young DJ/Producer aims to change the game with his signature sound. Here are his thoughts: EDM Nightlife: How did you get into electronic music and what triggered you wanting to get into the scene? DJ EMBEX: Well, my father was a DJ and my mother was a dancer, so it kind of runs deep in my blood, which is why i grew up to so much house and hip-hop. The thing that got me in the scene is that I heard so much repetitve bad stuff that I wanted to make my own, so that way I can listen to good music back-to-back. EDM Nightlife: Hailing from Newark, New Jersey, what kind of influence do you think the city and local scene had on your style? DJ EMBEX: Definitely a strong one, the countless amount of dancing those kids would do all night… It’s pretty deep and underground up there. EDM Nightlife: We’re glad to ask a younger generation of artists this question. Do you think online promotion and marketing channel artists towards a different means to get noticed? What do you think about DJ BL3ND’s online career launch? DJ EMBEX:  Yes! Every time you meet someone famous and they happen to meet an average Joe {you} they always give you that “Send me your Soundcloud” bs. At least artists are actually looking for local help instead of expecting big name artist to sit down and really scroll through your band page, which is why I do that for many artist, but if you spam too many people they soon see you as a chain mail joke. I just heard about DJ bl3nd having an online career by the way, so kudos. EDM Nightlife: When it comes to production, what is your favorite DAW? Do you prefer using in-board (vst) or our-board instruments? DJ EMBEX: FLstudio 10xxl and I prefer VSTs, because they can be re-aranged and manipulated in all the right ways to make all the nastiest sounds. I love Rob Papen’s VSTs, it’s like garlic powder for steak and chicken. I  mostly use a lot of mastering VST plugins and distortion modulation synth plugins. EDM Nightlife: Your style often mixes a variety of genres of EDM. Do you think it is essential to diverse from just one style nowadays? Is it a requirement to be different than the rest? DJ EMBEX: If you have one genre you better kill it, because variety is key and if you don’t keep the word “originality” in your head, then you are going to make it literally nowhere. If you veer off to other genres to impress the masses then you loose compassion and people will tell by the way you produce your tracks that you aren’t the same. That’s where most artists fall. EDM Nightlife: Tell us about your weirdest gig. Something that you remember as real cool, or just weird. DJ EMBEX: North Carolina. Frat party. I’m talking lesbians fighting everywhere while I’m playing D-Jahsta and there was a unicorn girl licking my hands repeatedly until she cut her tongue on my ring and had me kicked out. EDM Nightlife: Where do you see EDM going in the next 5 years? Do you think the market is saturated? DJ EMBEX: I see EDM in more commercials, trailers, movies, I mean it’s growing so fast it’s ridiculous and the money spencers and other major markets are making off of the scene, I feel like it’s going to definitely loose its meaning and be another money-pyramid. Like selling cars… EDM Nightlife: If you had a chance to pick anyone (dead or alive) to perform with on stage, who would it be, and why? DJ EMBEX: Definitely the “Bloody Beetroots”. Their house was the hardest hitting electro house  I’ve ever heard, at the same time in a style you would never hear from a Native Instruments massive preset. EDM Nightlife: When it comes to performance, what do you prefer to play on? Is there an absolute minimum equipment you need to have and do most venues supply this gear? DJ EMBEX: Laptop, in case I dont have that song I can grab it off the web at very very high quality because I suck at taking care of things, so my cds are always destroyed. I prefer my own gear because you always have this one venue you play at, where the CDJs have cockroaches and I definitely don’t want my hands all over that. EDM Nightlife: In the long run, when do you consider yourself successful? DJ EMBEX: I’ve partied with free bands, Ice-Ts daughter, the Real Housewives, DJ Unk, Wak Flocka, Bobby V  and many others, even Wolfgang Gartner. Traveled half of the U.S. and back and I wouldn’t have done it, if it wasn’t for the love of music.
